An established in-house counsel and trial attorney with over 20 years of experience managing high-exposure, catastrophic injury cases, Scott has a demonstrated history of successful cost management and litigation defense in the automotive industry. Scott has extensive experience in all aspects of litigation, including preparation and defense of corporate witnesses; investigation of technical matters; managing cross-functional teams; directing the work of retained experts and in-house engineers; oral argument; mediation; jury selection; and the direct and cross-examination of fact and expert witnesses at trial.
Over the course of his career, Scott has tried over 10 design defect cases to verdict on behalf of various automobile manufacturers, in venues including Reno, Nevada; Owensboro, Kentucky; Stockton, California; San Juan, Puerto Rico; West Palm Beach, Florida; Tampa, Florida; St. Louis, Missouri and Fort Myers, Florida. His practice currently focuses on mitigating risk for businesses through efficient decision making, client-counseling, cost-effective resolution and, where appropriate, aggressively defending companies and their products, up to and including trial.
Scott graduated from the University of Michigan in 1995 with majors in both English and Psychology, and from the University of Minnesota Law School in 1999. He has been licensed to practice in Minnesota since 1999 and in Michigan since 2017. Before joining General Motors in 2014 as an Attorney in its Product Litigation group, Scott was recognized as a Rising Star by Minnesota Law and Politics for seven consecutive years.
In addition to a full-time legal career, Scott enjoys playing guitar, spending time on the lakes in his home state of Michigan and traveling with his wife and two children.
